Rules for Shooting in Woods and
at Maypole Football Ground
The Shooting Grounds shall only be used by the members of South Birmingham Archers, unless as part of an official ‘Open Shoot’ or another organised shoot.

- Beginners may shoot under the supervisor of senior experience archer or archery coach.
- To shoot in the woods or club range there must be two full members of South Birmingham Archers over the age of eighteen.
- There shall be a field captain (senior SBA archer) in charge of the shooting line when shooting at the range.
- There shall be a shooting line and waiting line on the range, when not shooting all archers will wait at the waiting line until the command from the field captain.
- The field captain is the only archer on the range who can command shoot / collect.
- On hearing, STOP, HALT, FAST OR HOLD or 3 blasts on a whistle archers must cease shooting and put their bow down and remove their arrow from the bow.
- The field captain will control the shooting line with the commands shoot, collect and fast/stop/halt, or by whistle.
- There is to be no smoking in any part of the wood / range.
- All archers in an OPEN shoot must be members of the NFAS and have their membership card with them, and have their arrows marked in accordance with NFAS rules. Non-Shooting members (shoot partners, Marshals etc.) on the course should have a minimum of an Associate membership of the NFAS.
- Do not walk around with arrows in your hand.
- Do not loose an arrow if you cannot see where the arrow will land.
- Do not loose an arrow if your footing is not secure.
- Do not use high draw while in the woods / range.
- Never point your bow at anybody or an animal.
- Keep back whilst other members of your group are shooting in the woods.
- Never run in the woods or range.
- When searching for arrows always leave an adult member of the group or your bow in front of the target in the woods.
- Always wait until the people drawing arrows from the boss are well clear of the targets before shooting in the woods.
- ANYONE suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drug (prescription or other) will be removed from the woods / range.
- Anyone found or seen to be acting improperly will be cautioned by a committee member and may be asked to leave the woods / range.
- All lost arrows must be found or logged in the lost arrow book with archer's name, description of arrow, and time / data of lost. When found arrow must be ticked off in the lost arrow register.
